What have Year Two been up to this week?
It has been an extremely busy first week back at school! Even though it was a day shorter than usual we've managed to squeeze in lots of learning!
Maths has made up lots of our learning this week. We started learning about fractions and have been exploring finding halves, quarters and thirds of shapes and amounts. We used cubes to find 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4 of different amounts ready to start learning how to find 2/4 and 3/4 of shapes and amounts next week.
Because we had been impressing Miss Kendall with all of our marvellous maths in the mornings this week, we started learning about telling the time in the afternoons too. On Monday we created our own split-pin clocks, adding the numbers, the hour hand and the minute hand to the clock face. We labelled the 'past' side of the clock and the 'to' side of the clock to help us with our learning next week.
This week we learnt to tell the time to o'clock and half past and next week we will be learning about quarter past and quarter to before challenging ourselves to tell the time to 5 minutes.
We have been learning in lots of smaller groups this week with lots of different learning going on in all of them.
Some of us have been learning about conjunctions and modal verbs, some of us have been learning about traditional tales and some of us have been learning about nouns and verbs.
We are continuing with our Living Things and their Habitats topic for the first part of the summer term. This week we used the signs of life to identify things that are alive, things that are dead and things that have never been alive. Pictures of things made of wood sparked lots of discussion as we knew that spade couldn't have been alive but we know the wood comes from trees.
We hope you've enjoyed reading about our week!
