What have Year Two been up to this week?
As ever, it has been a busy first week back after half term here in Marjons class! We got stuck straight back in to our work and have been very busy learning while Miss Kendall has enjoyed meeting with all of our grown ups.
Following on from writing our own stories based on Handa's Surprise, we have started learning about non-chronological reports. We looked very carefully at the different features of a non-chronological report before we researched African Lions ready to start writing our own reports next week. We were excited to discover new facts about lions that we didn't know before - did you know lionesses do ALL of the hunting but the male lions eat first?
This week we have started learning more about addition and subtraction. We started off using a part-whole model to show addition facts up to 20. We then used a bar model to find linked addition and subtraction facts. On Thursday we practised adding concrete objects before moving on to using pictures and drawings to help us add on Friday.
Grown-ups who want to help at home may find this webpage useful: What is a bar model?
This half term we are continuing our work on Animals Including Humans. On Tuesday we learnt about healthy diets for humans and were pleasantly surprised to find out that a healthy diet can include treats (as long as there's not too many) and that humans wouldn't be healthy if we just ate fruit and vegetables, even though we know they're good for us. Excitingly, it was also revealed this week that we are expecting a delivery of caterpillars so we can learn all about the lifecycle of a butterfly!
**Next week we're looking forward to keeping you up to date with what we're doing with photos and pictures of our work (once Miss Kendall works out how to post these!)**
