The school was last inspected in February 2024. It was rated as GOOD overall, with two areas rated as OUTSTANDING

The inspectors that visited our school carried out their inspection over the two days, which included deep dives into various subjects, lesson visits, discussions with staff/pupils, meetings with school leaders and scrutiny of work undertaken by children. They met with the headteacher, assistant headteachers, subject leaders, members of the trust, spoke with parents, and reviewed documentation provided by the school. Buckfastleigh Primary is an inclusive school. Pupils are proud to belong to this caring and welcoming community. Pupils are happy.’

Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary. They work hard and have positive attitudes to their learning. Pupils speak confidently about equalities.’

'The early years is exceptional. Staff form strong relationships with the children, which enables them to settle quickly.'

'The school is ambitious that every pupil will become a fluent reader. Children begin their reading journey from the start of the Reception Year. School staff are highly skilled in the teaching of reading'

The inspection graded the school in five different areas and this informs their assessment of overall effectiveness.
